All communities are mining communities
Mining helped build British Columbia into the province it is today.
For generations, mining has been a critical source of jobs, community development
and prosperity in every region of our province.
Today, BC’s mineral explorers, mines and smelters, and the local businesses that
support them, continue to be foundational to our province’s economy and its
future growth, while providing the minerals and metals we all depend on.
In 2018, the mining industry generated:
- $12.3 billion in economic activity
- 33,000+ direct and indirect jobs, and
- $1 billion in direct payments to government to support healthcare, education and public services.
