Every year, BC’s mining sector and communities across the province host events to celebrate mining and share with British Columbian’s the important role minerals and metals play in our daily lives.
With COVID-19, this year’s Mining Month events are all online, but the spirit and enthusiasm remain!
All Month - 2021 Mining Month Virtual Scavenger Hunt
Join the MineralsEd Virtual Scavenger Hunt and learn about the important role that mining plays in BC by exploring five different communities throughout the province, including: Britannia, Kamloops, Sparwood, Barkerville, and the Golden Triangle. Complete the scavenger hunt at each stop and be entered to win amazing prizes including iPads and a trip for two to a BC resort.
All Month - Designed to Fly @ Britannia Mine Museum
Discover how different zipline properties affect how an "aerial cart" runs on the line. The innovation of aerial tramways for ore transport made life easier for the early Britannia miners. Self-guided activity included with regular Museum Admission, or with Museum membership.
All Month (Saturdays/Sundays: 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm) - Live in the Lab: The Chemistry of Cleanup @ Britannia Mine Museum
Drop in activity for visitors to learn about the science behind the water treatment process at Britannia Beach. Facilitated activity, included with regular Museum Admission, or with Museum membership.
May 4 - Mine Safety Awards - 3:00 pm
EMLI is inviting all nominees to attend an announcement event for the 8 award winners in the afternoon. Invitations will be sent.
May 5 - MABC ESG Panel #1: Diversity and Inclusion in Mining - 12 noon to 1:00 pm
On May 5, MABC and Women in Mining BC will host a panel discussion with BC mining leaders who will share their experience and perspectives on increasing diversity and inclusion at the mine site and in executive and board positions.

Women in Mining BC is proud to celebrate the accomplishments of women in BC’s mining industry with three separate awards to honour dynamic women who inspire, support diversity and inclusion and promote rising stars.

May 11 - Kamloops Exploration Group’s Prospectors Showcase
The Kamloops Exploration Group will showcase local BC prospectors and their properties through a Zoom Webinar. You will hear from local prospectors on their properties, findings and the work they’re conducting within our province. Attendance is complimentary and include up to five informative prospector presentations over the hour.
May 12 - MABC ESG Panel #2: Environmental Innovation and Decarbonization in Mining Innovation Panel: Decarbonization - 12 noon to 1:00 pm
On May 12, MABC is hosting its second ESG panel discussion on environmental innovation and decarbonization in mining. Join industry experts and thought leaders for an informative discussion on how our industry is reducing its carbon footprint and preparing for the net zero mine.
May 13 - Association for Mineral Exploration Awards Gala: Celebration of Excellence

May 18 - Smithers Exploration Group and the Smithers District Chamber of Commerce
Block your calendar on Tuesday May 18 from noon to 1:15 pm to help northern BC celebrate Mining Month. Smithers Exploration Group and the Smithers District Chamber of Commerce are partnering to co-host a virtual panel with industry speakers focusing on innovation in the minerals industry.
May 19 - Royal BC Museum @Home (Kids) We All Rock
Bring the kids and join the Royal BC Museum’s @Home series. Learn about rocks, the rock cycle and uncover why these are so important. Hosted by Shirley Rosichuk at the Stewart Museum in Stewart BC, and Allegra Whistler from MineralsEd in Vancouver.
May 19 - MABC ESG Panel #3: Indigenous Peoples in Mining - 12 noon to 1:00 pm
Join us on May 19 for MABC’s third ESG panel discussion on Indigenous Peoples in Mining. Knowledge keepers and subject matter experts will discuss reconciliation, UNDRIP and what’s required to advance meaningful relationships and partnerships to achieve shared objectives between Indigenous peoples and Industry. Dave Nikolejsin, Strategic Advisor, McCarthy Tetrault will moderate. Panelists include:

BC Mine 2020: A New Agenda for Transformation and Sustainable Growth. For the past 53 years, PwC Canada's BC Mine Survey has always been highly anticipated for its financial performance insights and industry perspectives in the mining industry and in mineral exploration and development.
Join PwC for the virtual launch webinar as PwC shares this year's findings and discusses the challenges and opportunities from 2020 and what we can expect in 2021. Michael Goehring, President and CEO of the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC), Jeanette Jackson, CEO at Foresight CAC, and PwC net-zero/ESG experts Mike Harris and Sarah Marsh to speak.
