The Red Chris mine has an opportunity within the Environmental department for a Water and Wastewater Treatment Operator. This position is for work at the remote Red Chris mine located 80 km south of Dease Lake, BC in Tahltan traditional territory. The successful applicant will be required to work and stay in camp during their shift rotation. We offer a number of designated flight marshalling points within BC. RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Controlling the flow and processing of water/wastewater, residuals and finished water/effluent
  • Monitoring gauges, meters and control panels and observing variations in operating conditions
  • Interpreting test results to determine processing requirements
  • Operating valves and gates either manually or by remote control
  • Starting and stopping pumps, engines and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment process
  • Maintaining shift logs and recording meter and gauge readings
  • Collecting samples and performing routine laboratory tests and analysis
  • Performing routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
  • Making operating decisions in the absence of supervisory personnel  Other duties as may be required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certified EOCP Small Water System/Small Waste Water System Operator
  • Minimum 2 years’ work related experience operating a water treatment plant
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license required
  • Working knowledge of plumbing and pipefitting
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of various types of pumps, controllers and waterworks
  • Familiar with the laws that apply to drinking water and municipal wastewater regulation
  • Ability to mix reagents such as chlorine and potassium permanganate to refill reagent addition containers accurately and safely
  • Ability to record and maintain all activities with respect to the water treatment plants as legal documentation for compliance and reporting
  • Must have strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications with an aptitude for learning various computer systems, SAP experience a distinct asset
  • A team player that works well with others
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
