The Red Chris mine has an opportunity within the TIA Department for a Tailings Dam Construction Technician. This position is for work at the remote Red Chris mine located 80 km south of Dease Lake, BC in Tahltan traditional territory. The successful applicant will be required to work and stay in camp during their shift rotation. We offer a number of designated flight marshalling points within BC. RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Tailings Dam Construction Engineer, the Tailings Dam Construction Technician is responsible for the construction, maintenance and surveillance of the projects 30,000 mtpd tailings impoundment facility and associated water management systems, working closely with the Operations and Environmental teams, as well as the Engineer of Record. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Promoting and participating in a safe work culture, following all site operating procedures
  • Conducting field quality control tests for geotechnical materials
  • Conduct related survey work for the tailings dam construction including GPS work and mapping
  • Data management of all QC testing results
  • Conduct Dam inspections and site investigations
  • Assist in geotechnical materials lab analysis (i.e. Density, gradation, proctor, ABA testing)
  • Conduct dewatering activities including pump checks within the Tailings Impoundment Area
  • Conduct piezometer readings, inputting data into spreadsheets, reporting
  • Drilling, test pit programs and tailings pond sampling programs
  • Ongoing data and materials management
  • Assist in the operation of the Cyclone Sand Plant, as required
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Tailings Dam management team

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Mining Technology Diploma or similar combination of experience/training
  • 3-5 years industry experience, preferably mining or heavy civil earthworks construction
  • Experience with geotechnical materials sampling, field and lab quality control testing methods
  • Experience in dam inspections
  • QA/QC experience for large earthworks projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of geotechnical materials testing, hydrogeology, and surveying
  • Strong computer skills, familiar with 3D modeling software such as MineSight or AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SAP, MS Office, SharePoint, MS access skills would be desirable
