A mine of information: finding resources in the NRCan library
If you have an hour to spare and you are downtown, the NRCan Library is an excellent way of finding resources on paper that translate to resources in the field.
The NRCan Library is located centrally in downtown Vancouver and is a free resource open to the public. We offer a vast collection of research materials, periodicals, reports, maps, and access to a variety of geological databases. The NRCan Library houses over 100,000 books, more than 40,000 Canadian maps and provides access to many international Geological maps as well. We also have a large collection of Geological Survey of Canada and BC Geological Survey maps and reports and we can help you navigate their websites to find what you are looking for in their on-line collection of maps, air photos, Assessment Reports or Minfile information.
We also subscribe to the National Post, Globe and Mail, Vancouver Sun and the Northern Miner - so come in and catch up on what's happening in the industry. Bring your coffee!
The library houses a self-serve photocopier and we have made it easier for you to take information away with you by reducing the cost of photocopying. Each copy now costs .10 cents for black and white and .50 cents for colour.
