May 7, 2014

Princeton, BC – Princeton Mining Day will take place on Wednesday May 7, 2014, to celebrate BC Mining Week, an annual event which brings together the mining industry and the local host communities to celebrate the benefits and contribution of mining in British Columbia.

On Wednesday May 7th, 2014, the Copper Mountain Mine & the Princeton Chamber of Commerce will host their 4th annual Business Luncheon at the Princeton Golf Club. This event will provide business leaders in Princeton with the opportunity to hear about the benefits and contributions of the mining industry to the community and what steps the industry is taking to ensure future social and economic sustainability.  Later in the day, the Copper Mountain Mine is hosting a family day event at Veterans Square from 3:30-5:30pm which is free to attend with activities for the whole family.  The event will feature live entertainment, interactive mining displays, information booths, BBQ and much more.

Princeton Mayor Frank Armitage stated “The Copper Mountain Mine is the largest employer for the town of Princeton and currently has about 420 employees. The opening of the mine in the summer of 2011 represented a significant injection of economic benefits to the local community of Princeton, the surrounding regions and the province.  The Copper Mountain Mine makes it a priority to be part of the community and to contribute to growth and sustainability whenever possible. Sponsorships, partnerships, and donations are important parts of how Copper Mountain is giving back to the local community”.

Jim O’Rourke, CEO of Copper Mountain Mining Corporation remarked “We are pleased to participate in celebrating the 4th Annual Princeton Mining Day during BC Mining Week.  At Copper Mountain, we believe the most valuable resource of our company is the people, their knowledge, competence and experience. This summer marks an important milestone for the Copper Mountain Mine team as we come closer to achieving our production goals.  We eagerly await the successful installation and start-up of the new secondary crusher. Once the secondary crusher is fully operational and the production targets are achievable, we are confident the operation can continue to provide economic benefits to the Princeton area.”

Jackie Tegart, MLA in Fraser-Nicola District for BC Liberal Party noted “Mining is incredibly important for the Fraser-Nicola, not only in terms of employment but also for critical social services, such as healthcare and education that are funded by government revenues.  The BC mining industry brings significant economic benefits to the Fraser-Nicola District, while providing a world class model for environmentally responsible mining”.

Karina Briño, President and CEO of the Mining Association of BC stated, “The Copper Mountain Mine and the Town of Princeton are tremendous success stories.  We are proud to be part of an industry contributing real benefits to communities, such as Princeton, across BC.  Mining Week is a great opportunity for us to come together to celebrate this contribution and our commitment to communities and the province”.
