MABC Presentation to the BC Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services

On October 15, MABC presented to the BC Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services.  The following five [5] recommendations were put forward by the association:

  • Ensure ultimate oversight for the mine permitting process rests within the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) and ensure adequate resources are allocated.
  • Ensure all natural resource ministries (Energy and Mines; Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations; Environment; Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation) have adequate resources to support the responsible growth of the mining industry.
  • Government ensure adequate resources are placed on skills training in Budget 2015, with a particular focus on First Nations training and continued funding for AMTA, Centre of Training Excellence in Mining (CTEM), Northwest Community College’s School for Exploration and Mining (SEM).
  • Government of BC allocate adequate resources in Budget 2015 for the continuing negotiation and implementation of revenue sharing agreements (Economic and Community Development Agreements).
  • MABC supports a review of the application of PST on electricity usage for the mining industry.
