Kamloops Celebrates Mining Week

April 28, 2014

On April 8, 2014 Kamloops City Hall declared April 27th to May 3, 2014 Mining Week in Kamloops.

Mining Week in Kamloops will be celebrated throughout the week, culminating on Friday May 2 with a business luncheon hosted by the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce and Venture Kamloops with guest keynote speaker Karina Briño, President and CEO, of the Mining Association of BC.  On Saturday, May 3, Kamloops residents are invited to a free community fair co-hosted by the Kamloops Exploration Group (KEG) and the CIM South Central BC Branch, from 11:00AM to 4:00PM at the Big Little Science Center, 655 Holt Street.

Mining Week is an annual event that brings industry and the local community together to celebrate the contribution of the industry and foster an open dialogue about mining in BC.

“We are very happy to be celebrating mining week in Kamloops again this year”, stated Ms. Briño.  “Kamloops and the surrounding area is an important region for the mining industry in BC.  It is rich in mineral deposits and home to many leading mining professionals and suppliers to the mining industry.”

“We have a long history of mining in the Kamloops area, dating back 100 years,” noted Kamloops Mayor Peter Milobar.  “Today, representing the largest copper producing area in Canada”, he continued, “I am pleased to join the industry in celebrating their continued contributions to our region”.

Two major mines, Highland Valley Copper and New Gold, are currently operating in the area, providing approximately 1800 jobs to the Kamloops region and a combined investment of more than $1 billion in the area.

BC Mining Week takes place May 11-17.  Please visit for more information on events scheduled across the province.
