Welding/Fabricating/Machine Shop Planner

Reporting to the Planning Supervisor, the Welding/Fabricating/Machine Shop Planner is a key team member responsible for developing, supporting, managing and controlling all aspects of planned work required for welding, steel fabrication and machining within Fording River Operations and other Teck Coal sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Manage work order backlogs for accuracy and provide details required to properly advance the work  through the planning process
  • Scope all aspects of pre-job requirements, including parts, labor, resources, permits, drawings, facilities, support equipment, special equipment, tooling, instructions, etc.
  • Work closely with the Teck Coal Welding Lead at our centralized office to ensure offsite projects are completed in the desired time line using short interval control methodology
  • Create and develop tracking documents for managing an effective and cost efficient rebuild process for buckets, shovel dippers, haulage boxes etc.
  • Develop and maintain a 13-week maintenance forecast, focusing on equipment criticality and proper work identification
  • Maintain a long term forecast, focusing on key equipment, components and major work
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of financial forecasting, budgeting, and analysis
  • Work with the trades to create detailed work packages, optimizing wrench time and implementing a quality assurance program
  • Track and report Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) of our processes and systems, bringing forth visibility and continuous improvement opportunities to the Maintenance Department
  • Implement maintenance strategies within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as outlined by the reliability engineering group, work closely with condition monitoring personnel to plan any condition-based work orders
  • Manage inventory levels for required onsite parts as well as setting new parts up in inventory
  • Support heavy duty shop, shovel and drills, field crew, etc. with scheduling welding resources when required
  • Manage all other maintenance requirements for assigned assets as required

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma along with a journeyman’s ticket or post-secondary degree/ diploma in a related engineering or technical discipline is preferred.  Preference will also be given to candidates with previous supervisory, planning or scheduling experience
  • Basic typing skills and experience with the Microsoft Office® package, especially Outlook, Word and Excel, are necessary. Training will be coordinated for our CMMS system, Microsoft Dynamics AX, however previous experience would be an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, proven human relation skills and follow-up skills are required
  • Familiar with maintenance processes and system software used at site would be an asset
  • A proven team player and able to work well in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment
