Reporting to the Human Resources Superintendent, this position is responsible for training, instructing and evaluating employees in both classroom and field environments. This position will work a 5x2 day shift schedule; however it may be subject to change based on requirements.

The successful candidate will provide direction to the Training Coordinator(s) on their respective shifts and interact directly with the various departments on site requiring assistance. They will be directly responsible to set the overall training agenda for site operations and develop programs to meet deliverables.


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Deliver comprehensive training based on safe work procedures and site training requirements including simulator, classroom work and field work
  • Participate in the development and modifications of standard practices and procedures (SP&P’s)
  • Evaluate employees on their abilities to safely and productively operate the equipment and other day to day activities
  • Conduct new hire follow-up and have important discussions if progression is not adequate
  • Work with Senior Supervisors to develop talent, versatility, and monitor the number of trained operators per piece of equipment and equipment assignments
  • Provide new hire orientations and initial computer training
  • Direct new and specialized training programs such as Computer Based Training (CBT), SP&P’s, Simulator Training, Blasting recertification, operator skill review, and PowerPoint presentations for safety and equipment training procedures
  • Work with management to continually determine training needs and priorities, assess training programs, and work with staff to develop training courses, plans and solutions
  • Be the liaison with external parties, organize and facilitate work-groups, and manage the training program based on department needs; be responsible for internal and external communication on department training initiatives and serve as the point of contact for the Training Program
  • Guide and assist subject matter experts with the development and appropriate delivery methods for course content
  • Learn and stay abreast of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to meet the training needs of the various jobs within the site, and keep current on specific certification requirements
  • Ensure training resources are secured to meet the training needs
  • Be involved in administrative functions of the training program


  • Minimum eight to ten years of open pit mining and/or training experience on the following: Haulage Truck, Electric Shovels, Production Loader, Electric Drill, Heavy Duty Dozer, Grader, Backhoe and Excavator
  • Detail-oriented, adaptable and energetic
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Understanding of both Project Management and Change Management
  • Efficient computer skills, including familiarity with company Training History Program, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint would be an asset
  • Ability to multi task and keep accurate records of all training events
