Senior Lead, Calcite Management – Water Quality Management

Reporting to the Manager, Water Planning, in the Water Quality Management group, the Senior Lead, Calcite Management performs a central function in calcite management to achieve the intent of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan and the requirements of both individual C-permits under the Mines Act and Environmental Management Act permit 107517.


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with site, business unit and corporate environment and water management groups to lead the understanding and management of calcite related issues
  • Maintain regular communications across affected Teck groups ensuring common understanding of issues and potential solutions
  • Support Water Projects and Operations on both forward looking and day-to-day aspects of calcite management
  • Work in project roles as required in support of the water program
  • Inform design of future calcite management systems either standalone or associated with water treatment
  • Consider current research and science, operational, legal and other aspects in decision making processes
  • Participate in Teck’s Social, Environmental and Regulatory Approvals (SERA) process for permit applications
  • Ensure calcite related issues are appropriately addressed within relevant environmental management plans including the Tributary Management Plan and the Adaptive Management Plan
  • Support regulatory reporting requirements


  • Engineering or Science degree/diploma in environmental-related field or commensurate experience
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in environmental compliance, resource and project management, preferably related to water treatment, mining or natural resource environment
  • Registration, or the ability to become registered, with a professional organization in BC
  • Experience in project development and delivery
  • Experience using and interpreting data including proficiency with relevant software
  • Exposure to industrial operations interaction with aquatic environments
  • Aspects considered as assets:
  • Practical knowledge of federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations related to water treatment
  • Ability to act as a Qualified Professional as regards to analysis, interpretation, and the preparation of reports
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills
  • Results focused with strong problem solving, organizational and  multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize to meet deadlines in a dynamic work setting are a must
