Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, the Payroll Clerk will be responsible for administering all aspects of the payroll system such as accurately entering completed timecard information and ensuring payroll deadlines are successfully achieved and employees are paid accurately.


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Accurately code and post daily time cards
  • Support the Payroll Supervisor in the preparation of hourly payroll in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), company policies, employment standards, all government legislation and other payroll standards as required
  • Assist in timely and accurate payments to hourly employees ensuring security and timeliness of bank transfer payroll files
  • Facilitate timeliness of all month end payroll reporting in meeting set deadlines
  • Help with preparation and remittance of WCB reports, Resource Management Fees, Income Tax, CPP and EI in accordance with government legislation
  • Contribute to the annual preparation and reconciliation of taxable benefits and T4’s
  • Assist in preparation of annual Gain Share and Profit Share and other Teck Coal incentive payments
  • Ensure Safety Points Program is maintained and reconciled and employees are issued rewards on a timely basis
  • Respond to general queries from employees and other departments
  • Adhere to internal and external controls by assisting Payroll Supervisor with new employee on-boarding and processing terminations and ROE’s
  • Perform other clerical duties as assigned


  • High School Diploma
  • Payroll and/or Accounting experience
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly spreadsheet, word processing and payroll applications
  • Ability to prioritize, work under pressure with minimal guidance and meet constant deadlines
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities
  • Motivated individual who performs with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proven high levels of integrity and confidentiality
