Maintenance Planner

Reporting to the Senior Engineer Supervisor, the Maintenance Planner will be a key team member in developing, supporting, managing and controlling all aspects of planned work identified through the Maintenance Department.  The current vacancy is in the Light Vehicle/Facility Planning Role; however the planning role is subject to change as per operation requirements.

The Planner determines the scope, general strategy and coordination requirements of work, correctly identifying work scopes and providing proper instructions, tools, and parts to be used on the jobs, thereby facilitating safe, productive and quality work. The Planner also reviews all maintenance backlogs and forecasted events.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Manage the Light Duty (LD) backlog prior to scheduling
  • Determine scope of work, bill of material, resource requirements and timeline for planned work
  • Develop adequate LD work instructions and provide relevant documentation for each task
  • Review, audit and approve LD backlog work orders before scheduling the work (T-13 to T-2), including ordering parts, arranging vendors and contractors, etc.
  • Maintain LD & Facility Equipment Registry, Utilization Policies and Event Templates
  • Develop and maintain LD Preventative Maintenance (PM) intervals and documentation
  • Supervise the annual LD vehicle replacements and arrange LD vehicle commissioning, insurance and registration
  • Liaise with our Sparwood and Vancouver offices
  • Manage Medium Duty vehicle annual inspection (cranes, fire trucks, ambulances, buses, etc.)
  • Oversee Facilities annual inspection (underground lines, hoists, stacker, fuel tanks, etc.);
  • Manage the computer program licenses and updates
  • Work closely with the Material Coordinator on part management (create ICA’s, etc.)
  • Support the tooling purchasing and scheduled maintenance
  • Plan and schedule long-term facility projects (Capital Expenditures, etc.)
  • Draft supporting documents for procurement
  • Liaise maintenance information with shareholders during projects (managers, contractors, foremen)
  • Contribute appropriately in regular work control by planning and scheduling meetings
  • Support housekeeping programs, such as 5S
  • Assist during reliability initiatives
  • Implement and develop Best Practices

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical trade certificate or diploma in a relevant technical field or equivalent technical and operational experience
  • Minimum 5 years of related strong working knowledge of maintenance and reliability in mobile equipment, fixed plant, utilities or infrastructure
  • Solid understanding of maintenance planning and scheduling concepts
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices, performances measures, scheduling tools and techniques
  • A working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (Dynamics AX)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office® products, such as Word, Excel and Projects
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated administrative and leadership skills
  • Proven skills in written and verbal communication, strong sense of leadership and team consensus building
