Lead, Research and Development – Water Quality Management

Reporting to the Manager, Applied Research and Development, the Lead, Research and Development is responsible for assisting the delivery of water quality improvement projects, with the execution of the long-term Applied Research and Development (R&D) agenda. This role will facilitate knowledge transfer to the site from water quality R&D projects.


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support various site and Sparwood-initiated water projects that enhance water quality
  • Act as project manager to set engineering scope, develop engineering RFPs, and evaluate proposals for water projects
  • Provide field support during construction and operation of water projects as well as other field activities
  • Provide support to other teams within the Water Quality Management group
  • Liaise with internal stakeholder groups to identify, research and implement water quality strategies and technologies
  • Report on all water projects in professional manner suitable for delivery to senior management
  • Perform other responsibilities as the Water Operations group matures


  • Engineering or Science degree/diploma in a civil, mining or environmental related field
  • Minimum of three to five years of relevant professional experience with a focus on project management
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite®: Outlook, Word, Excel and Project
  • Experience with GIS or Mintec’s MineSight mine planning system is an asset
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to multi-task and excel in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, and decision making abilities
  • Experience working on projects, overseeing, coordinating and communicating with multiple internal resources and external contractors
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Flexibility to work in a changing environment
