Geologist, Coal Quality

Reporting to the Senior Geologist Supervisor, the Coal Quality Geologist will work closely with the Engineering, Operations and Processing teams to effectively recover and blend the coal released in the mining process. This role is an integral member of Greenhills team and will be a 4 days on 4 days off schedule (12 hours days). This position is approximately 75% in the field, 25% in the office. This position is part of the G.I.T. rotation program.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Assist others in identifying work related hazards and eliminate or isolate these hazards
  • Minimize raw coal loss and dilution during extraction from the mine by working closely with equipment operators and Foremen to ensure we are meeting coal recovery, cleaning and stockpiling expectations
  • Provide geology support to Mine Operations through geological mapping of seam locations and producing daily notes and maps packages
  • Troubleshoot feed problems and provide effective solutions
  • Work daily with processing to adjust feed blends as needed while also considering the adjustments against the needs of the Mine Plan
  • Maintain effective communication with various groups on site including Processing, Mine Operations and Engineering
  • Provide pit quality control to Operations via sampling for coal ash, oxide and PAG rock
  • Provide coaching and support to other geologists or engineers in the same position
  • Support Geology by completing all blast pattern geophysical logging using a Gamma tool only

Qualifications:

  • Completed diploma or degree in Geology or a related discipline
  • Minimum two years of relevant work experience
  • Experience reading and interpreting geophysical gamma-density logs would be an asset
  • Experience with Minesight software would be an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills required
  • Strong organizational, time management and communication skills required
  • Strong ability to be flexible and handle multiple priorities
  • Preference will be given to those with previous field experience
