Environmental Coordinator

Reporting to the Manager, Regulatory Approvals the Environmental Coordinator is responsible for providing technical, process and administrative coordination for environmental permitting projects. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Regulatory Approvals Team and will work within project teams. 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support implementation of the Social, Environmental and Regulatory Approvals (SERA) components of major and non-major projects, through coordination of permit applications
  • Support the preparation of management plans
  • Contribute to the preparation of Request-for-Proposals and proposal review processes
  • Assist with coordination of consulting teams including the scheduling and coordination of environmental baseline programs and reporting
  • Aid with health and safety requirements of field programs
  • Coordinate meetings and engagement events with government and First Nations
  • Coordinate and track responses to regulatory review comments and information requests
  • Provide technical, administrative and project management support for permitting projects (i.e., assist with schedule, budget, scope changes, risk log, document control)
  • Prepare status summaries and schedule reporting materials and work with managers and directors on approval of the documentation
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Engineering or Science degree/diploma in Forestry, Biology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field
  • Three to five years or more of professional experience in environmental management, environmental assessment, or regulatory field
  • Experience in preparing and/or coordinating permitting applications in the resource development industry or demonstrated similar work
  • Specific knowledge and experience with permitting under the following BC legislation is an asset: Water Sustainability Act, Environmental Management Act, Mines Act, and Forest Act
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with internal staff and across government agencies and work with managers to identify and resolve issues
  • Experience with environmental assessment is an asset
  • Excellent organization skills and proactive work style
  • Skilled at using MS Excel and other software such as MS Project, PowerPoint and Word
