Reporting to the Manager, Social Responsibility, the Coordinator, Social Responsibility, will assist with management of Social Risk for Teck’s Coal operations in the Elk Valley in compliance with Teck’s corporate direction and obligations to external bodies. These obligations and external bodies include, but are not limited to, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, Towards Sustainable Mining, International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), and IFC Performance Standards.


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support engagement with indigenous communities, the general public, and our local communities, including interested community groups and organizations
  • Manage Teck non-mining lands and relationships with leaseholders and Teck neighbors
  • Address issues and concerns of leaseholders
  • Maintain records of up-to-date leases, leaseholder interactions and grievances
  • Ensure timely payment of leases, taxes and leaseholder adherence to lease agreements
  • Support public consultation requirements for the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan implementation as well as participate in other regional community outreach and consultation
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives


  • Post-secondary degree in Social Sciences, Communications or a related field
  • Three to five years of related experience in a social responsibility role
  • Previous mining experience in social responsibility is considered a significant asset
  • Strong understanding of the principles of social responsibility and their application to resource and community development
  • Familiarity in working with First Nations, local communities, and not-for-profit organizations
  • Experience developing and leading strategies and implementing supporting action plans
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment including leading change and making recommendations to management
  • Ability to function collaboratively with external agencies and other departments and units within the business
  • Proven ability to work productively in both a team environment as well as with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision making abilities
  • Superior written and verbal negotiation and communication skills
