Civil Engineer

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Supervisor Long Range, the Civil Engineer will carry out day-to-day design requirements and work as part of a team overseeing mining projects from the design phase through to completion in preparation of mining activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Maintain and demonstrate Teck’s commitment to environmental protection as a core value
  • Ensure mining project designs are coordinated with the mine plan, geotechnical, environmental, safety, and other considerations
  • Integrate and communicate with other site groups to develop the best overall plan
  • Manage projects and contractors for various mine planning projects such as pre-development activities including water management structures, timber harvesting, soil stripping, pre-development in preparation for mining, power line relocation, coal bed methane well decommissioning, seismic studies for bedrock contact, and burning waste trials
  • Develop detailed costing models to evaluate mining options, and assist with production and cost reporting, tracking, and invoicing
  • Assist with development of Appropriate Requests, and tender packages including cope of work, service agreements, purchase orders
  • Contribute to project design work and develop schedule, budget, and risk register for projects
  • Serve as the contractor field supervisor and point of contact
  • Participate in environmental, health, safety, & community plans and incident investigations
  • Carry out quality assurance checks and reporting
  • Contribute to project design work as required
  • Perform other responsibilities as required or as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Achieved or pursuing their P. Eng. qualification
  • Experience with AutoCad and Hexagon MineSight mine planning system is viewed favorably
  • General operational and/or heavy equipment experience would be beneficial
  • Flexibility and creativity in dealing with scheduling, mine planning and other complex issues
  • Strong computer skills Microsoft Office Suite®: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Good analytical, problem solving skills and is comfortable making recommendations
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
  • Experience working on projects, overseeing, coordinating and communicating with multiple internal resources and external contractors
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner and possess good time management skills
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a technical team based environment
