MINE PRODUCTION GEOLOGIST

The Red Chris mine has an opportunity within the Mine Operations Department for a Mine Production Geologist. This position is for work at the remote Red Chris mine located 80 km south of Dease Lake, BC in Tahltan traditional territory. The successful applicant will be required to work and stay in camp during their shift rotation. We offer a number of designated flight marshalling points within BC. RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Chief Mine Engineer, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Detailed interpretation, analysis, and continuous improvement in understanding the controls on mineralization at the existing deposits
  • Responsible for updating geological interpretations with the latest geological information, and working with various stakeholders to update 3D geological models of the ore body
  • Integrate and interpret all geological data, assay and mineralogical data into geologic maps and internally consistent cross sections and level plans
  • Geological and geotechnical mapping, with emphasis on ore grade control and minimizing dilution
  • Prepare and update drill hole database, daily geology reports, and other records
  • Maintain grade calculation in all active headings to advise in production decisions
  • Perform grade calculation for month end reports, perform grade calculation for reconciliation
  • Work with other geologists in the completion of computerized resource block models
  • Work with metallurgists to provide samples for processing, testing and evaluation
  • Chip sampling of development headings and collection of muck samples as required
  • The role participates in HSE activities including safety meetings, risk assessments, and safety interactions
  • When required, help with Drill rig supervision, geotechnical logging and sampling of drill core, assisting Core Shed Technician in the processing of drill core

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Science; Post-graduate degree, an asset
  • Eligible for or working towards membership in APEGBC (P.Geo)
  • 5-7 years of experience working as a Mine Geologist preferably in an open pit mine
  • Proficient with 3-D modelling software – MineSight, Vulcan, Deswik, Surpac etc. (MineSight Preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Enthusiastic self-starter and able to handle multiple tasks while paying attention to detail, with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
