Northwest Transmission Line

British Columbia’s Northwest is the next great frontier for mining.

In 2007, over $176 million was spent on exploration in BC's Northwest area - there are over eight major projects in the region that could result in the province’s next major metal or coal mine. Lack of electrical power is holding back this potential development.

MABC, in partnership with the Northern Development Initiative Trust, First Nations, local communities, suppliers and industry is working encourage the development of a major electrical power line along Highway 37 to Dease Lake or beyond. The “Northwest Powerline Coalition” has produced a study of the economic potential of the power line. The coalition continues to work with government and our partners to explore options.

The Highway 37 website serves as as the focal point for people looking for information regarding the project. The website includes information regarding the power line, media releases and a list of financial contributors. Information on supporters, presentations and links to news articles are added on a continuing basis. Most importantly, the website offers the opportunity for interested parties to sign up and show their support for this initiative. Supporters who sign up  automatically receive news updates and reports as they are posted on the site.

Also see BC Transmission Corporation Website for additional information on transmission line status.
