Mining, the Safest Industry

“The B.C mining industry is very proud to be regarded as the safest heavy industry in B.C. Since 1993, the B.C. mining industry has reduced its injury rate by 50% to 1.9 injuries per 100 worker-years”

WorkSafeBC statistics for injuries occurring on the job show that the mining industry is the safest heavy industry in British Columbia.

For instance, in metal and coal mining, the injury rates have dropped by half in the last ten years. See attached graphs.

The industry's diligence and commitment to safety is reflected in the numbers, and yet no one is, or will ever be, satisfied until there are no statistics to report.
We attribute our success, in part, to the close working relationship between labour, management and the mines inspection branch.

For the continued safety of those who work in mining we are convinced that we have to continue to support this tripartite collaboration and that the mining industry must continue to be inspected by mining professionals.
