WorkSafe BC has released their 2016  preliminary rates for all Classification Units (CUs) and there is some good news. Rates for all 3 of the main mining CUs are proposed to decrease significantly as per the table below:

$1.30

-10.9%

CU 704013 – Underground Mining

These proposed rates, along with all proposed 2016 CU rates, are posted on the WorkSafe website - http://www.worksafebc.com/insurance/premiums/2016_prelim_rates/default.asp

WorkSafe has been spending the summer meeting with the sectors that will see increases. Once they have completed that process, there will be an opportunity later in September for WorkSafe to meet with this Committee to discuss the drivers and rationale for our particular CU unit decreases. MABC will be reaching out to WorkSafe in the coming days to set this up.

After this consultation period, the WorkSafe Board will meet in the fall to finalize the rates, which will then be formally announced to industry.
