Mining Week 2015

Mining Week 2015 has come to a close and we would like to say Thank You for Celebrating with us!  There were 21 events across the province this year; from Smithers to Sparwood, Prince George and Kamloops, British Columbians came together in virtually every corner of the province to celebrate our dynamic industry.

In Vancouver we hosted the first ever sold out Opening Gala, where Minister Bennett officially declared BC Mining Week and kicked off the series of events that followed.  More than 150 joined us at the Five Sails as we honoured John McManus as the Mining Person of the Year.

Teck Celebrity Pie Throw Raises $1.1 Million for Mining for Miracles

On Thursday, May 7th hundreds coalesced outside the Vancouver Art Gallery for the annual Teck Celebrity Pie Throw.  This year the Pie Throw raised an astounding $1,066,184 in support of Mining for Miracles and the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The afternoon was, as always, wildly fun, lighthearted but at its core focused on the very important initiative of raising funds to support BC’s sick kids.  This year 100% of the funds raised are dedicated to opening a new CAUSES clinic at the BC Children’s Hospital which will use one genetic test to help diagnose kids with rare diseases, saving time, money, travel and stress on the families by getting to a diagnoses and treatment faster.

Karina Briño was once again paired up to go against Gavin Dirom and although Karina’s final total of $18,200 raised overcame Gavin’s $14,000, a little surprise was in store!
