Vancouver – The Mining Association of British Columbia today was pleased to learn the Provincial Government will share revenue from new mines with First Nations.
“The MABC and our counterparts in industry have been calling for resource revenue with First Nations for sometime. We are pleased to see the government moving in this direction,” said MABC President,Pierre Gratton.
Resources revenue sharing can help increase certainty for access to land and resource development, by providing a stream of revenue for First Nations involvement and income from resource development. It may also provide an important basis for accommodation of First Nations interests.
“The industry recognizes it is important that communities share in the benefits that mining brings. Resource revenue sharing ensures that more wealth stays in the regions where it originated. People object when they see natural resources leaving their region without noticable local benefit—and rightly so,” added Gratton.
